Presumptive Drug Screen

CLIA Waived Drug Test Cups - Medical Distribution Group

Drug testing can be conducted with two basic methodologies: Definitive and Presumptive.  A presumptive drug screen is used to detect the presence of a drug or drug metabolite in human urine.  Blood may also be used but urine is the primary method.  Presumptive testing is also considered qualitative and offers a positive or negative result.

In office Drug presumptive testing is reimbursable by many insurance companies.  We are not licensed billing experts and do suggest consulting with your billing expert.  Common codes used for a presumptive drug screen are G0434 and 80300.

Qualitative / Presumptive drug tests are reasonable and necessary when a patient presents unreliable history, suspicion of multi drug ingestion and or to monitor compliance.   For more information and covered ICD-9 codes please research your local Medicare LCD.
