We are pleased to offer Globe Scientific premium quality borosilicate glass tubes. The tubes provide excellent chemical resistance and durability. They feature well-rounded bottoms and smooth, fire-polished rims. Dimensional specifications are rigidly controlled for reliable, uniform results. The tubes are produced in an ISO 9001:2008 certified factory. They are available in six sizes.

The Globe Scientific exclusive TubeSaver™ Packaging System helps prevent breakage and contamination during shipping and storage. The tubes are neatly stacked in heavy-duty, shrink wrapped boxes.

For additional convenience, the 10 x 75mm, 12 x 75mm and 13 x 100mm boxes fit into Globe Scientific’s metal/plexiglass tube dispensers.

  • Tubes can be used for tissue culture and blood banks
  • Made from superior quality borosilicate glass to reduce pH changes and contaminants that are potentially leached from tubes made from soda lime glass
  • Tubes feature well-rounded bottoms and smooth fire-polished rims

Globe Scientific borosilicate glass culture tubes are essential tools in scientific research, especially within the fields of microbiology, cell culture, and molecular biology. Their primary function is to provide an environment for cell and microbial growth and to facilitate different experimental protocols. They are called "culture" tubes because they're used for growing and maintaining different types of biological cultures, particularly bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells.

Borosilicate glass, as a material, is highly desirable for this application due to several of its properties. It is composed of about 15% boron trioxide, which makes the glass resistant to extreme temperatures and chemical reactions. This quality allows the tubes to be sterilized at high temperatures without deformation or breaking, and they can also endure the rapid temperature changes involved in many lab procedures.

Other benefits of borosilicate glass include:
Chemical Resistance: Borosilicate glass is resistant to strong acids, alkalis, and other aggressive substances. This resistance ensures that there is no interaction between the glass and the substance inside, which is crucial for accurate and uncontaminated results.

Thermal Shock Resistance: Borosilicate glass has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion. This makes it resistant to thermal shock, allowing it to withstand rapid temperature changes that would cause other types of glass to shatter. This property is particularly beneficial in labs where the tubes may need to be transferred between different temperature conditions quickly.

Optical Clarity: This type of glass is clear, which allows researchers to easily observe the contents of the tube. This is particularly useful when growing cultures as it allows for the direct observation of growth and color changes.

Durability: Borosilicate glass is stronger than common glass, meaning it is less likely to crack or break under normal lab handling conditions.
