Overview
The DrugTect Cup serves as a rapid, qualitative immunoassay screening tool for detecting multiple drugs from a single urine sample. While it provides fast preliminary results, any positive indication should be confirmed with a quantitative testing method—preferably using LC-MS/MS or GC/MS techniques.
Drug Concentrations
“Cutoff Levels” determine if a result should be classified as positive or negative (e.g., 50 ng/mL for THC, 150 ng/mL for COC). Drug concentrations are reported in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL)—a nanogram being one-billionth of a gram, and a milliliter approximately 1/30 of a fluid ounce.
Storage And Materials
Keep DrugTect Cups at standard room temperature (15–30 °C / 59–86 °F). Always check the expiration date on the pouch or box (format: YYYY/MM/DD) and never use a product past that date.
Product Features And Benefits:
• Screens for up to 20 drugs at once
• Clearly numbered chambers (20) to reduce misreading
• Optional adulteration testing (SVT)
• Durable, robust cup design
• Available with both 510(k) cleared and CLIA-Waived strips
• Built-in temperature strip for immediate validation
• Wide-mouth design for ease of use
• Cap and cup arrows align securely to prevent leakage
• Requires no tilting to activate
• Fast, 5-minute results
• Results remain valid for 10 minutes
• Unique drug panels include EtG, fentanyl, K2/Spice, and buprenorphine
Procedure & Specimen Collection
1) Prepare a results form or record sheet
2) Ask the donor for photo ID
3) Ensure the donor removes outer garments and empties pockets
4) Keep bags and belongings out of the restroom
5)Secure the collection area—disable water (e.g., turn off faucets), confirm presence of blue toilet water, and remove potential adulterants like cleaning agents
6) Make sure toilet tank water is locked and safe
7) Request the donor wash their hands in full view before collection
8) Confirm the foil packaging is intact; open it and remove the cup
9) Have the donor urinate directly into the DrugTect Cup until at least 30 mL is collected—this activates the temperature strip and ensures enough sample remains for confirmatory testing if needed
10) Tighten the lid until arrows on the lid and cup align; check yourself that it's locked
11) Verify the urine’s temperature falls within 90–100 °F—if not, the specimen is invalid
Results InterpretationA negative result is indicated when both the Control Line and Test Line appear, even if the Test Line is faint. Interpret results as soon as both lines show up—this can be within 30 seconds.
Line intensity may differ by lot or by specimen—do not compare test lines against each other or to the control line. Any visible test line at the 5-minute mark means negative.
A positive result occurs when the Control Line shows but no Test Line appears by the 5-minute mark. Always wait the full 5 minutes—some drug strips can take that long to develop.
Results are only valid within 10 minutes. Any reading made after that time should be considered invalid.
If your cup includes a Specimen Validity Test (SVT) strip, use the included color chart to interpret indicators such as creatinine, nitrite, glutaraldehyde, pH, specific gravity, and oxidants. Match colors at the proper read time—colors change by lot and over time.

An Example of a Cup With a 6 Pad Adulterant Strip:
For a cup with adulterant strip(s) (e.g., SG-strip labeled AD2), compare the pad color to the chart. If it matches a shade under the “Abnormal” column—like blue or yellow—it flags the specimen as abnormal. If the color isn’t listed there, it’s considered normal. Note that screen display colors may vary.
Line Intensities May Vary
Faint test lines still indicate negative, regardless of how light they appear compared to control lines as seen in the below image.
Key For Reading Drug Test Results
• Control Line (top line) = test valid
• No Control Line = test invalid (repeat)
• Test Line = test negative
• No Test Line = test positive
Invalid Results
No control line detected on a strip (e.g., MTD or BZO) indicates a invalid result. The result is also considered invalid when both the conrol and test line fail to appear on the same strip.
The following is an example of a positive test result for BAR and AMP.
